Once again the great British weather conspired against the endurance specialists to throw a months worth of cats & dogs at Minley Manor late on Friday. Despite this riders who completed a pre-ride of the 8 mile figure of eight lap returned with glowing reports about how well the course was riding. Their question was how well would it hold up with more rain forecast and 1000's of wheels rotavating the soil. The answer; well yes the loam got cut up pretty bad and some trails turned muddy and slippery with a couple of monster puddles forming (aka The Swamp, and The Puddle of Deep Doom). But with no clay in the area the mud was not the sticky type so did not clog wheels or transmission. So a 100% rideable course with a bit of skill, albeit tough going in places. The changeable conditions did not deter nearly 400 riders taking part, many for the first time in such an endurance event. Competition in all categories was hard fought and positions changed right to the end as riders raced through the 'Lurkers Zone' to get back out before midnight for just one more lap. Full results with lap times are available on the Timelaps website via the link above this article. Well done to you all but especially:

Many thanks to all our sponsors for the support they gave us in setting up the event and for providing a wide range of product prizes. On behalf of the Gorrick team, thank you to the riders and spectators for taking part and making the event a success. All being well we look forward to next year and have already started putting plans in place with improvements in mind to the course, arena, camping and facilities.

To end, sorry to say it's time for a wee rant... LITTER - PLEASE DON'T DROP IT. Whilst clearing the course I picked up a bagfull of gel, energy bar and food wrappers. It's quite a simple concept, you managed to carry the items in your pockets beforehand so put the empty wrapper back there after use. For the weight weenies it's now lighter & takes up less room. On the positive side thank you for bagging up your rubbish on the campsite, it looked very tidy afterwards.

Looking ahead to our final two events of 2008: the Senior Champs at Tunnel Hill 12th October and the Autumn Classic at Crowthorne 2nd November, full information and online entry will be available shortly.
