Gore Bikewear Enduro: Results and Photos

More news and comments to follow on Monday, but I'll keep things brief tonight as my brain's a bit befuddled from going round, and round, and round a few more times!! It was certainly fun out there with some great highlights, such as IT - the descent with the man-size berms and tabletops (many thanks to Colin Adams and his merry band of builders for letting us use it), also Seagull Woods and the Full 9 Yards which proved the merit of the "ginger" hardpack trail resurfacing. We caught up with a few riders for their post-race comments:

  • "The course was fantastic." Paul Hudson 1st in the 2-lap.
  • Many riders summed it up briefly; "Brilliant fun!" and "The jumps and berms were wonderful."
  • "You'd suffer up the hills, but it would be ok because you'd know that there'd be a fun downhill afterwards." Nicky Hughes 2nd in the 2-lap women.
  • "A great course - thanks." Lots of riders coming in to collect their medals.
  • "It was hard work, but it was as slick as usual with plenty of places to overtake. I'll be back." Nick Evans, 3rd in the 3-lap.
  • "Where did you find all those trails? I've ridden Swinley for years and never found some of them. You guys keep surprising us." Unknown rider during the race.
  • "That was a whole heap of pain, but fantastic fun! It's amazing what you can put your body through for 70 odd miles; like total leg cramps at 5 laps and then get back on with the muscles twitching like crazy to complete another 2. I'm going to be sore all week." An unknown but happy finisher.

I hope you completed your challenge and after some well deserved rest can look forward to another of our famed Enduros... speaking of which the 12:12 TORQ in your SLEEP enduro information and online entry is now live, click here for full info.

You may have noticed our photographer Guy Swarbrick trudging round the course the wrong way to capture you on film. Well he can testify that in itself was a test of endurance, so make it worth his while and buy some pics from his Special Offer described below...

To celebrate your endurance (and mine!) we're trying out a special offer for this event. Buy half the pictures I took of you today* and you can have the other half free! Oh yes, that's me over there off to get my "finishers" medal - now suffering with swollen wet feet and an aching back from lugging all my camera gear for 10 miles!

* OK. There had to be some small print - but it's mostly good. Simply order any combination of prints or downloads that include half of the pictures I took of you as hi-res download. It's easy to find them all using the Search Images function.

Here's the bad bit - I'm afraid you're going to have to round up. If you did the 2 lap event and I took 7 pictures of you, order 4 and I'll send you the other 3 as downloads. I average about 3 per lap - and it's not your fault if I happened to take more of you than average. So if you did the 2 lap and I took more than 6 of you, just order 3 to qualify (or half, whichever's lower). If you did 3 laps, you only need to order 9.

And, as a mark of respect to the 4, 5 and 7 lappers, 10 will be fine - I'll donate the rest. It'll give you something to look at while you recover. Told you not all the small print was bad. If you order less than 10, the bonus pictures will be hi-res downloads. If you order over 10, you can choose between a download or a DVD.

Anthony White (Extreme Endurance) took the 7-lap win by less than 2 minutes from Sylvain Garde (Addiscombe CC)

Viv Hazelton (TORQ Bar/Beyond MTB) was unchallenged for her ride which was just 15 minutes shy of 9 hours in the saddle
