Preview: Gore Bikewear Enduro & course conditions update

02/05/08 Update on Course Conditions
The team have spent plenty of time this week making sure that the course for this Sunday is as rideable as possible despite some wet weather. Over 70 puddles have been drained of their contents, so there will be a relatively mud free course, as you would expect from Swinley Forest. Below are a couple of photos to whet your appetite for Sunday. Don't forget that you can still enter on the day - we look forward to seeing you there!

Sunday 4th May is Gorrick Gore 100 Enduro Challenge day, which is your chance to take part in the South's premier Enduro event. You choose the number of 10 mile laps that you are going to go for (2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 laps) and that is your challenge - achieve it and you receive an award. There will also be some fantastic pieces of kit as prizes for the various categories courtesy of Gore Bike Wear up for grabs too. As ever there will be lots of trade stands to browse and a great atmosphere to soak up.

Over 200 riders have already entered and there looks to be some stiff competition for the 7 lappers with such notables as Ironhorse Extreme team mates Anthony White and James Leavesley, both 12 and 24 hour solo race winners. No doubt upcoming enduro specialist Matt Carter (Epping Hard Crew) will be snapping at their heels as will Veteran stalwart Gavin Rumbles. In the ladies race Gorrick regular Viv Hazelton (Beyond MTB/TORQ) will be looking for a podium spot but may have a battle on her hands against Karin Oakes and Lisa Hewitt. But who else might just turn up on the day to upset the applecart, could it be you?

Getting to the venue: we will be using a slightly different entrance to last year, but it will be well signposted. The nearest post code is GU19 5PN but DO NOT TURN off the road here, continue along the northbound carriageway only of the A322 Bracknell Road and turn in left approx 200m prior to the roundabout. Follow the fireroad to the parking and start area, approx 1 1/2 miles where there will be plenty of parking.

Sorry, no camping or pre-riding: please note that there is no overnight camping available at the venue or pre-riding of the course. The gates will not be open until 7.30am, PLEASE do not arrive before that time as you will block the access road for the team.

Pre-entries close on Tuesday 29th April: entry on the day will be available from 8am. Event Registration for the Enduro does get very busy, so priority will be given to those with earlier start times. Pre-entered riders should collect their race number board from Entry Express.

Feedzone: there will be a marked pit area trackside where you can leave your supplies while you ride. We recommend you bring plenty of water with you as there will be none available on site.

Start times: 7 laps - 8.30am, 5 laps - 9.00am, 4 laps - 10.30am, 3 laps - 12.30pm, 2 laps - 1.00pm. The course will close at 5pm and all laps must be completed by 6pm.

The course: will comprise some of the best trails Swinley has to offer; from snaking singletrack, bermed corners, dropoffs and technical challenges to fast open fireroads where you can refuel.

Massage: trainee sports massage therapists from Farnborough College will be on hand all day to loosen up your leg muscles and ease the cramps.

Trade support: as at all Gorrick events, TORQ Fitness will be on hand to keep you energised and Guy Swarbrick our roving photographer will also be there all day recording your efforts which you can download sample images for free or purchase high resolution images online. 1st Gear Cycles will be selling all the usual last minute things you forgot to pack.

Heart UK: we are supporting the charity Heart UK who will be manning an information stand and can advise on everything you need to know about high cholesterol or cardiovascular disease.
