The skies are bright and blue, but there's a chill in the air... Many riders countrywide talk of trails that are wet, muddy and hard going, but rumours of 'dry' Surrey racetracks abound... The New Year get fit resolution is still nagging at the back of the mind... I wonder if these are some of the reasons why the turnout was record breaking for us, since the xc heydays of the nineties.

A surprising little fact was to note that 150 riders were brand new to our races. If you're one of these you may have found the course a real baptism of fire feeling like you were thrown in at the deep (or steep) end. Please be rest assured that all our venues have very varied terrain & trail networks and unique challenges, so if you have strengths or weaknesses in an aspect you may find they change at the next race. It's all part of biking, racing and learning to push yourself just that little bit further each time. As one competitor said "Next lap I WILL get to the top of that hill without pushing."

On behalf of the Gorrick team I'll pass on their thanks for all the e-mails and encouraging words which have helped get us through the past three days of 'sudden change'. Looking ahead to round 2 on the 17th February it is scheduled for Surrey Hill, but if our plans come to fruition the venue may change - no promises though! Please revisit the website during the next week or so to find out more, or register to join the News E-mail database. If you've anything to say we welcome your feedback, contact us at ride@gorrick.com.

As title sponsor Exodus Travels provide a holiday at various rounds. A race number board will be randomly picked from the hat to win. This week it was Expert rider Nick Evans who will be enjoying a riding holiday in the sun. Congrats! The category Series Sponsors will be announced later this week to which the prize listing will be added in due course, along with the points table for the top 10. Please note there are no series prizes for the following categories; Under 12's, Beginners, Fun.

If you haven't already done so, go and review the race results and photographs which can be accessed via the links above this article. Sample images are downloadable free of charge, and high resolution images can be bought through Guy and Mike's websites.

We're looking forward to a great year with some exciting new developments planned, more details soon. Meanwhile round 2 is only three weeks away so you may as well go and pre-enter right now.
