Preview: Test Valley Hot MTB Challenge and TrailTrax

by Jon Lucas, 26 Jun 08.

Vernham Dean, deep in the Test Valley countryside and loved by all, is the venue for our upcoming weekend of mountain biking, with a TrailTrax on Saturday 5th July and the Hot Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday 6th July. (Grid Ref: SU345564)

TRAILTRAX

For those new to the concept, this is orienteering on a bike! You choose whether to cycle for three hours or a gentler two and there are plenty of categories to suit all ages and abilities; solo or pairs, male or female, from experts to families. Full details of how to take part are at www.gorrick.com

Registration opens at 1.45pm and Start Times are from 2 to 3pm. Mountain Trax will be providing some great prizes and there will be a prize giving at 6.15pm. There will be full facilities and hot drinks, home made cakes, plus a nearby pub with camping just down the valley at Wyke Down, which is our venue for the Test Challenge in August.

You can enter ONLINE now, as pre-entries will close on Tuesday but, as with all Gorrick events, you will be able to enter on the day too.

HOT CHALLENGE

This year the three marked circular route choices are 80km, 50km and the family friendly 30km. These all offer some of the most scenic off road riding in the south on quiet lanes, tracks and bridleways of the Hampshire/Berkshire border, including the memorable singletrack through 'The Woods'. All riders will receive a free Torq energy bar or gel and free energy drink at the water stops along the course.

Registration opens at 8.45am and Start Times are from 9 to 11am. The Tour sponsors Pedal On will offer every rider the chance to take part in their online Prize Draw. Vernham Dean pavillion has full facilities and refreshments, home made cakes and a barbecue throughout the day at the Finish. Every rider taking part will also be entered into the end of year prize draw with the chance to win a cycle holiday with Saddle Skedaddle.

You can enter ONLINE now, as pre-entries will close on Tuesday but, as with all Test Valley events, you will be able to enter on the day too. Full details on www.testvalleytour.com.

So why not make a weekend of it? We look forward to seeing you there.
